(03/21/13) The APWU recently reached an agreement with the Postal Service regarding Non-Traditional Full-Time (NTFT) duty assignments in finance functional areas (Function 5) and bulk mail units (Function 7).

| Union Wins Huge Case for Clerks in Small Offices |
(03/30/13) The union won a major arbitration victory on March 29, when Arbitrator Shyam Das issued a long-awaited decision that will affect Clerk Craft jobs in small post offices. The ruling settles a long-simmering dispute about the amount of bargaining unit work postmasters and supervisors may perform in Level 18-and-below offices.

| APWU, USPS Revamp Window Training |
The APWU has made significant progress recently on revamping window training — a long-term union goal, Clerk Craft officers are reporting.
Last summer, after years of struggle, the USPS finally allowed the APWU to be involved in training — and even paid for the travel expenses of clerks who participated, they note.

| Penalty Overtime Regulations |
In accordance with Article 8 of the CBA,
there is a four (4) week period where the penalty overtime regulations are not applicable.
This year the period begins with PP26 – WK 1 (Dec. 1, 2012) and ends at the conclusion of PP01 WK2 (Dec. 28, 2012).

For APWU represented employees who make a VERA request and are subsequently excessed into a non-APWU craft, the USPS has committed to honoring the VERA request only as long as it is made prior to the excessing date.

The Illinois Postal Workers Union in conjunction with the area local’s will be hosting Retirement Seminars with Tim “Tag” Gambatese. Tag will be in each area a few days after the seminar to meet one on one with anyone interested in getting personal assistance.

Involuntarily reassigned employees are entitled to “retreat” to their previous installations when job opportunities become available.

Sign the Petition
(05/06/13) The APWU is asking union members and supporters to sign an online petition urging the White House to Save the Postal Service and Save American Jobs by supporting the Postal Service Protection Act (H.R. 630 in the House and S. 316 in the Senate). The We the People petition must garner 100,000 signers by May 24 to generate a response from the White House. We still need more than 80,000 additional signatures!
